| YOUR DUTY TO GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY |
We all get some benefit from society. The paycheck you receive comes from
consumption of products by others, albeit indirectly. This concept is just part of it
though. How many people helped you get where you are today? How many of them
did so without asking for anything in return? Well, now it is your turn.
Your greatest duty is to your family, especially your children. Do them wrong and
they just might become society's nightmare tomorrow. Now you have to balance
the duty of time with providing. It is very difficult for a man to earn enough money
to support his family, yet devote every necessary moment to his kids. One really
great thing about this period of disability is it gave me the opportunity to be with
my children. There must be a balance. You really should ask yourself the point of
raising money to support your family if you don't support your family emotionally.
Kids need parents more than material things.
You also have duty to evryone else in the world. You got something from the
world, you must give something back. If you don't, you are a parasite, a leech. Now
this does not have to mean giving money to charity. It is as simple as giving the
frazzled waitress a kind word and a smile. It can be letting people pull out when
traffic blocks them in. This costs you about 15 seconds, but may have saved them
much more time. Also, you doing this might just soften their heart so that they do
the same for another. So many people are in too much of a hurry, it is a joke. They
cut you off, then give you the finger, all the while displaying the Jesus fish on their
car. How cute and hypocritical. Jesus tells us to treat others as we want to be
treated. Cutting someone off then flipping them the bird would not pass Jesus'
test. I make it a rule when I am out driving to let at least 3 people out. More if I
can, but a minimum of three. They may never see me to thank me, but that is okay.
Altruism is a duty, a prima facia good.
This is the purpose of the bowling and my website. If I can show one person that
they can get out of their sickbed and feel productive again, then I have succeeded,
even if I never win a tournament. The world has been good to me overall, so I owe
all of you out there something.
John 15:13-Greater love has no man than this, that a man should lay down his life
for his friends. This does not have to mean dying for others, but rather giving your
friends your time, just for them. Cultivate friends, they grow like weeds if you
give them what they need.
